Buying your domain name is usually one of the first things on your to-do list when you’re building a website. Whether it’s for your brand or a multi-national business, you want to have a domain name to give your website a professional feel. You might think that your URL is all you get when you buy your domain name package. When you buy a domain name through our website, you get several features that come along with it. We’re taking an in-depth look at some of the features you probably haven’t considered, and how they help keep your website running smoothly.
Domain Privacy
As a domain name register, we offer the additional feature of domain privacy. When you purchase a domain name, your personal information is collected and registered with ICANN. The information displayed on your Whois record includes your address, email, name, and phone number. When you opt to use the domain privacy feature, proxy information will be used to protect your personal information to prevent security issues and potential identity theft. The personal information for users with certain domain extensions, such as .ca and .uk, are no longer posted by the relevant domain regulator.
Domain Forwarding
Before you commit to a domain name, you may have previously built your website through a website like Blogger or WordPress. You can update your previous URL to redirect to your new domain name by using domain forwarding. This feature means you don’t have to worry about previous customers and website visitors searching for your former URL and not finding your new domain name.
You might also decide to change your domain name to better reflect your business or branding. Whatever the reason, domain forwarding will allow you to redirect visitors to the correct page. You can do all of this within the DNS settings for your domain name. While we can do this for your domain, you’ll need a separate action to forward any emails associated with the previous domain.
Domain Locking
Domain locking is an additional feature we offer that prevents any unauthorised transfer of your domain name to a different registrar or website house. Your domain name could be targeted by hackers or third-party individuals who try to misdirect your nameservers or transfer your domain. Locking your domain gives you added peace of mind that we are protecting your website from unwanted attacks.
Update Name Servers
When you take out one of our domain name packages, you can access your name servers to make any necessary updates. Your DNS translates your IP address into a domain name and connects your website to a server. The nameserver is the storage facility for your DNS records. You can access the name servers that point to your website through your DNS. You might buy several domain names that all connect to one website, such as purchasing various extension variants like .co.uk and .com. With this feature, you can have your domains pointing to one website and managed through your name servers.
